# Deleting a Project in DataUnfold
This guide explains how to permanently delete a project (aka case) from DataUnfold and what to check before you proceed. It’s written for end users and focuses on safety, confirmation, and recovery options.
## Important — irreversible action ⚠️
Deleting a project permanently removes its files, settings, and generated analysis. This action cannot be undone from the UI. If you’re unsure, consider duplicating the project first or exporting any important data.
## Who can delete a project?
– Only users with the required permissions (project owner or an admin role) can delete a project. If the **Delete** option is not available, contact your system administrator.
## How to delete a project — step by step 🧭
1. Open the sidebar and locate the project you want to delete.
2. Click the three-dot menu (or right-click) next to the project and choose **Delete**.
3. A confirmation dialog will appear with the project title and a warning.
4. Read the message carefully; type the project title if required or click **Delete** to confirm.
5. Wait for the operation to complete. The UI will show a deleting state and then remove the project from your list.
6. DataUnfold first stops folder and datasource monitoring so connectors do not keep ingesting into a project that is already being removed.
## Alternate paths
– If you have the project open, you may also find a **Delete Project** option in the project settings or dashboard **Settings** menu.
– Some deployments provide an archive feature—use that if you want to preserve the project for later instead of deleting.
## If deletion fails or is blocked ⚠️
– Permission denied: Confirm your role and permissions with your administrator.
– Network or server error: Check your internet connection and try again. If the failure persists, note any error message and contact support.
– Active tasks: If the project is currently being processed or has active tasks, wait for completion or stop the tasks before deleting.
## Recovering a deleted project ❗
– In most setups, deleted projects cannot be restored from the UI. If deletion was accidental, immediately contact your administrator or support and provide:
– Your username
– The project title
– The time (with timezone) when the project was deleted
– Any error messages you saw
## Best practices ✅
– Export important files or data before deleting a project.
– Use **Duplicate** to create a backup copy if you want to keep the content but remove the original.
– Confirm with teammates before deleting shared projects.
## Need help? 📞
If you’re unsure about deleting a project or need recovery assistance, contact your system administrator or the support team and include the details listed above.
